Stehekin, the Bakery, a Lazy Day
September 23rd, 2007 by Cathie
Lazy day here at Stehekin. The Portland Trio comes in, having done the detour over Little Giant and Boulder Pass. Jeanne tells me the trail was terribly steep and they had it all - rain, sleet, and snow. Fortunately, they had a window of decent weather during the really steep downhill stuff, otherwise it would have been impossible.
We caught the bus on one of its runs up the mountain and got off at the Stehekin Bakery for lunch. This may truly be the world’s best bakery. I had pizza and a salad, then a blackberry scone, taking a brownie and a cinnamon bun for later.
Later, Dozen, Bull and Eric the Black arrived. These guys stayed at the campground and unfortunately did not come to dinner at the Lodge with everyone else. I was eager to hear if Dozen summited Mount Rainier with his uncle.
Tomorrow, we begin the last leg. On to Canada. Ninety more miles.
