Here are some hints for using this website:
Journal Entries: They appear on the home page of this website. There is a tab at the top of this and every page that says home.
Journal entries that are archived by month are abbreviated to a few lines. To open a journal entry so you can read it in full, simply click on the title of that particular journal entry.
To open any journal entry in its own page, click on its title. This is useful if you are printing a journal entry to read it.
RSS: See where it says “subscribe to posts” near the top right corner of this page? That allows you to subscribe to the home page - the page where journal entries appear. This means you don’t have to remember to return to this website to discover when a new entry has been posted. Instead, depending on your browser or email software, you will either receive an email or your browser will let you know when the home page has been updated.
In the effort to keep this discussion simple, I am going to suggest that if you don’t know what I am talking about, you just click on the word “posts ” above. See what happens. If nothing happens, you can copy and save the following address for when you need it to subscribe:
http://cathieandrandy.com/?feed=rss2
I use Firefox for my browser, and when I click on “posts” it pops up a new page and gives me the choice of using my email software (Thunderbird) or other programs used for the same purpose including: Bloglines, My Yahoo or Google Reader. I know if you use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express for reading email you can download and install a plug-in that will accomplish the same thing. It is called RSS Popper and you can learn more here.
I don’t know how other browsers handle this, but I am sure they must. You tell me, and we will incorporate your insight into this page when we update it.
Flickr: If you haven’t already, click on the link that appears on each page of this website and visit our page over on Flickr. We will post photos directly on this website with journal entries, but there will be many more photos on Flickr where we can present them in sets or albums, as slide shows, and even incorporate photos into the Flickr map - it’s very cool - go check it out. AND, if you are a Flickr member we would like to add you to our Flickr contacts, so link up to us when you are over there. Thanks.

You guys must be gluttons for punishment or maybe just your calves are. The pictures you take are completly phenominal though and must be what makes the trips worthwhile. We will be praying for you and look forward to your next entries. Wishing you the best of luck (with the weather) and look forward to hearing more from you.
With love,
The Riley Family!!!!!
Hey Fruitcake and Nutz!!
My two favorite thru hikers. Amir and I are missing you guys. Just wanted to find out where you are at the moment and how Nutz feet are holding up. We are at the 15 in Cajon hoping to be in Wrightwood tomorrow night and then we will be picking up the pace to get to the Sauffley’s earlier then I had hoped. Hope you two are doing great!!

I have talked with on the phone several times on our current project. I just got back from Oregon where we spread my mom’s ashes on our homestead in southern Oregon. The trail you are traveling will take you right next to our property line just after you cross highway 66 in Oregon. You will be at the summit of the Greensprings mountains ready to startup by the Hyatt Lake road. Off to your right will be a small lake and 1/2 mile down the road to the right where the highway crosses over the lake is a driveway on the left. My sister Susan lives there with a couple of horses and dogs. I grewup there and really enjoyed the place for the last two weeks. When you start into Oregon you will pass Pilot Rock and Soda Mountain Lookout which will provide a great view of the area.
Good Luck and happy hiking.
Wayne
I miss you. We “seniors” (OLD FARTS) are slowly being infiltrated by these knowledgable, sassy youngsters.
May your trip tone and tan you and may you discover the peace that only the West can bring.
Randy,
I wish you would get back here and take care of this mess you left Dan Nolan with!! Things are going OK here but there will be many changes to get use to. We rent out your desk on a weekly basis to contractor people that need a place to sit. How far have you guys hiked so far?
